On August 21, 2017, WWE announced that Asuka had suffered an injury at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn III in her match with Ember Moon.

The timeline for recovery for a broken collarbone is expected to be between 6-8 weeks.

She was allowed to continue the match, but did so in notable pain and discomfort. "We performed an initial ultrasound backstage that was highly suspicious of a break that was later confirmed by an X-ray".

News of the injury comes as Asuka approaches the 507-day mark of her historic NXT Women's Title reign. Add to it that she has not been defeated once; since debuting in October of 2015, and you can see how devastating the injury is to her career.

It's been rumored that Bobby Roode could be getting called up to the WWE main roster soon, and the rumors have picked up some major steam over the past few days now that Roode has dropped the NXT Title.

This leaves a very interesting scenario, should she relinquish the championship.

It's doubtful WWE was going to have her wrestle much over the course of the next few episodes of NXT now that she's become such a featured commodity, as those wrestlers are typically kept aside for special event appearances.
