A lawyer for ousted Buffalo school board member Carl Paladino says his client will appeal the state education commissioner's decision, which he suggested may have been influenced by the country's mood in the wake of a violent white nationalist rally in Virginia. The decision follows a five-day hearing in Albany.

After his racist tirade against Michelle Obama, School Board President Barbara Seals Nevergold went off on the former Donald Trump campaign co-chair.

In a questionnaire published on December 23, Paladino said his wishes for 2017 included former President Obama dying from mad cow disease and for the former first lady to "return to being a male" and "let loose" in Zimbabwe.

A one-time Republican candidate for NY governor whose insults of Barack and Michelle Obama preceded calls for his ouster from the Buffalo school board has been removed from the post. Disclosing private information from an executive session is a very serious offense, and I am thankful Carl Paladino was held accountable for his actions.

The president of the Buffalo school board says she hopes the ouster of a board member who was widely protested will bring an end to distractions that have gotten in the way of board business. He also argued that the information was a matter of public interest, not subject to confidentiality, and that his actions were meant to prevent crime or fraud.

"He is getting punished for pulling the curtain back", said Vacco, who added Paladino was simply trying to reveal that the teachers union had "manipulated" the school board to "arrive at a budget-busting contract". "Weighing all of the evidence in the record, any suggestion by respondent that he was unfamiliar with a board member's duties is not credible".

Elia rejected Paladino's contention that he was trying to get information about fraud and corruption within the board out to the media, saying that "is not a defense". Elia dismissed the other three.

He didn't immediately respond Thursday to requests for comment.

Radford, et al. v. Board of Education, et al. He had also said that he had no intention of resigning. Acting as a Trump surrogate, he drew boos from leaders of the nation's largest school districts during a Florida conference in October, when he said Trump would dismantle "corrupted, incompetent urban school systems" and that the Common Core state standards were created by college professors who used to be "pot-smoking hippies".

Paladino was first elected to the school board in 2013 and was re-elected in 2106.

The state's teachers union - New York State United Teachers - praised Elia's decision to remove Paladino. He said that MaryEllen Elia, the state education commissioner, has "rewarded the dysfunctionality of the board". She told him at the time, "you're fired", though it was the State Education Commissioner who actually made it happen, according to the New York Daily News.
