Struggling batsman Yuvraj Singh was on Sunday dropped from India's limited overs squad for the upcoming series against Sri Lanka while former skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni was retained by the selectors.

India, who have already pocketed the Test series 2-1 and are dominating the final Test, hold an impressive record against Sri Lanka in ODIs. The national selectors also rested RavichandranAshwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Shami and Umesh Yadav. Seamer Shardul Thakur and legspinner Yuzvendra Chahal were drafted into the 15-man squad, which also features the fit-again KL Rahul, an in-form Manish Pandey and Jasprit Bumrah, who was rested for the West Indies series. He made an impressive comeback, leading India A to a tri- series triumph in South Africa, with 307 runs.

The same squad will represent India in the one-off T20I that follows the ODI series.

Yuvraj was below-par in the last couple of tournaments, scoring 105 runs in the ICC Champions Trophy and 57 runs during the West Indies tour.

Axar Patel, Yuzvendra Chahal and Shardul Thakur have also been called upon in the absence of the prime bowlers.

The five-match ODI series will start at Dambulla on 20 August.

Rahul's inclusion means there will be four regular openers in the squad and it is likely that the Karnataka batsman will be playing in the middle order. The ODIs will be played on August 20, 24, 27, 31 and September 3, and the T20I on September 6.
