Williamson says you won't go hungry if you attend the Iowa State Fair as they have over 40 different foods available for your to sample.

As of Saturday evening, the City and Country plate is in the lead with 83,641 votes and the Fly Our Colors plate is in second with 73,334.

Another plate design option is called "The Great Wide Open" and has a graphic image of a summer landscape. "We are patriotic. We are forward thinking. And we embrace contributions from both the rural and urban areas of our state".

Local artist John Bosley created a plate design that he feels represents Iowa better than the designs made by the DOT, and the ideas were very well received by many Iowans. Voting will be open August 10-20.

New plates with a new design will start being issued sometime next year.

Drivers would get new plates in phases over 10 years, but Iowans eager to get the new design could pay $5 extra when they renew their vehicle registration and get new plates at that time, Henry told The Gazette. There will be no change to collegiate pates or other specialty plates that do not include this design.

Bosley says Iowans should have a license plate that stands out from the rest of the nation.
