Police helicopter crashes near violent white supremacist rally

A state police helicopter patrolling the race riots in Charlottesville has crashed on Old Farm Road, near the Birdwood Golf Course at the University of Virginia in Albemarle County.

No one on the ground was injured.

This happened Saturday, Aug. 12, near Old Farm Road just after 5 p.m. According to Bragg, the helicopter crash is believed to have been a VSP helicopter working the protest.

Charlottesville-based newspaper The Daily Progress reported that two people were killed in the crash, the cause of which is under investigation.

Virginia State Police posted on Facebook that a helicopter crashed, but didn't immediately say it was with the force.

Fire units and police are at the scene.

According to local reports, there were two people on board when it crashed, however it is not known if there are any injuries or fatalities.

Emergency crews are on the scene of a helicopter crash in Albemarle County.
