NFL Preseason Predictions: Will Titans cover spread vs. Jets? 8/12/17

While his night might have ended with a turnover, Hackenberg took small steps forward once again.

Vikings: Minnesota waived running back Bishop Sankey with an injured designation after he tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in the preseason opener.

Considering where Hackenberg was this time past year, that's legitimate progress.

After Josh McCown led the Green & White to a scoring drive in his only series, Hackenberg entered just past the midway point of the first quarter. Actually the preseason, but, seeing as the Jets 2017 season will probably be over five weeks into the regular season, why not enjoy the meaningless games while they're meaningless?

Despite a steady diet of short passes and a simplified offense, Hackenberg showed definitive signs of progress in over two quarters of play Saturday, part of the Jets 7-3 win over the Titans in their first preseason game of the season.

Hackenberg saw a drive with the first team offense before the second team offense came on for the rest of the half, and went 11-15 for 70 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions.

For Hackenberg, there were plenty of positives. On the first, Josh McCown moved the Jets 78 yards in eight plays. He completed 17-of-24 passes for 119 yards and looked confident and comfortable as he played the majority of the game.

Christian Hackenberg, a second-round pick in 2016, took over for McCown and played until late in the third quarter.

McCown finished 3-of-4 for 72 yards and the touchdown. Kicker Chandler Catanzaro, who has struggled in camp, missed wide left on a 55-yard field goal attempt. Bryce Petty got mop-up duty, playing one series in the third quarter and the entire fourth.

OUR PREDICTION: The Titans are the better team here and since most of the starters are in line to play some, a quick lead could set the tone for the game. The Jets defense totaled eight sacks, while Jordan Jenkins - making a strong case for a starting role at outside linebacker - had three solo tackles, with one for a loss, along with a sack. He had three receptions for 71 yards. Anderson, outrunning double coverage, made the grab over his left shoulder to land the Jets on the two-yard line.
