This isn't the end of the line if Junior doesn't win, there are three more races after MI and Dale has won at two of those Bristol and Richmond.

(24) Chase Elliott, Chevrolet, 202.429 miles per hour. Those that have been in the media center long enough have probably heard me say this and I'll say it again for those that haven't, but any success you have at your home track is right there with having success in the biggest races of the year like Daytona for the 500 and the championship.

"A driver's home track, where his family and friends are all present, it just feels like a bigger event".

Jimmie Johnson pounded the wall hard in final practice for the Pure Michigan 400 at Michigan International Speedway and will have to roll out a backup auto. "Always in the first (half) of the season, Scott Graves - my crew chief - and myself, we were kind of learning about everything - about the system, about the cars, about the race tracks, about everything, about the aero package, about everything". (198.813mph), Suarez (198.703mph), Logano (198.621mph), Truex Jr. He was 32nd-quick.

Kyle Larson has won the last three races held on two mile high banked ovals as he was the victor at California earlier this year and has won this race the last two years in a row. Stage 2 ends on Lap 120. He has the top driver rating in the field at MSI with a 119.0 driver rating. "We just have to put ourselves in that position". The first lap at speed and the thing just rotated around. "You've got to win. We all went to Ford Day (on Thursday), and I know the competitors had their day (during the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 unveiling) and their announcement yesterday". "It's going to be tough".

Kyle Larson is trying for a third straight Cup win at MI after victories this June and last August. Larson's 20 laps completed were the most on the sheet. Hendrick had previously announced the Kasey Kahne, driver of the No. 5 since 2012, would not be retained. Kahne was also forced to a backup vehicle.

"I think as a team we've been getting better and better", he said. The parade lap will continue around turns three and four finishing back at the start/finish line. Saved it, but then I was just going too fast and I got up in the gray and it went up and ended up running into the wall.

Thirty-minutes into practice, Keselowski shot to the top of the speed chart with a lap of 200.865mph. The rest of the top 10 were Kyle Busch, Jamie McMurray, Erik Jones, Kyle Larson and Denny Hamlin.

With 10 minutes remaining in the 50-minute practice, Keselowski continued to lead the session with the top 10 in tact. Kevin Harvick will start third, Matt Kenseth rolls off fourth and Chase Elliott will start fifth.
