Everything is different for Chelsea ahead of this Premier League season

United, by contrast, will be desperate to land a first Premier League title since 2013, with manager Jose Mourinho not holding back in the transfer market as he seeks to mould his expensively assembled squad into title winners. Since then the manager has plugged the gaps in his team with big new signings.

United's game with West Ham on Sunday afternoon (4pm kick off) will close the opening round of this season's Premier League fixtures.

City still appears too dependent on Vincent Kompany, its injury-prone center back and captain, while a new holding midfielder to replace 34-year-old Yaya Toure will probably be Guardiola's priority next summer.

We have more experience of working together with a much better pre-season than last season with confidence levels of a team that won a European competition. Every opponent wants to win every match.

Lukaku, Victor Lindelof and Nemanja Matic have been brought into help in to boost their title challenge, with the United boss looking to continue his remarkable record of winning the league in his second campaign in all five spells in charge of a major club.

Guardiola said: "Hopefully next season I will be here and we are not going to spend how we spent this season".

Paper Round's view: Two years Mourinho might just about get away with, but even he can't really believe the club's fans would give him a 10-year grace period?

"Europa League is not Champions League", he said.

If the overhaul of City's squad, costing over £200 million, does not deliver silverware there will be further uncomfortable questions for the Spaniard, who finished his first season in English football without a single title.

Kevin De Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku have both excelled in the Premier League after being let go by Chelsea.

The Red Devils boss has enjoyed success nearly without interruption across a 17-year managerial career, winning eight domestic titles, two Champions Leagues and two Europa Leagues.

"He's learning all the time, and I don't think anybody can dispute what a brilliant manager he is", said Hughton of Guardiola. Despite finishing sixth in the league, the Portuguese coach completed his first season at United with two trophies. However, they are yet to sign a wide player.

"We have a central midfielder and striker, so obviously another player would be one coming from the sides".

With the London Stadium now being used for the IAAF World Championships, West Ham's trip to Old Trafford will be the first of four away games to open the new domestic campaign.

He will now be the main man up top for Chelsea and will have to cope with the demands of the Premier League, very much different to what he would have experienced in Spain and Italy. We played MLS teams (La Galaxy and Real Salt Lake) and ended against the best teams in Europe (Barcelona, Real Madrid and Manchester City).
