Politico, which first reported the story, said Trump's updated schedule showed him returning to NY on Monday, before heading to New Jersey on Wednesday to finish out the final days of his working vacation.

The Oval Office might look a little different the next time you see it, as the White House is undergoing a major renovation project.

The Oval Office sits empty and the walls are covered with plastic sheeting during renovation work.

White House officials, including outgoing White House press secretary Sean Spicer, gave reporters a brief tour of the West Wing as contractors worked to revamp the West Wing before Trump returns later this month.

"We're in a situation where it's dire" Ms. Walters said of the heating and cooling systems, noting that given their constant use, their functional age is 81 years old.

This replacement was originally supposed to take place in 2014, but a plan wasn't put together in 2016. The renovation will not only be structural, but cosmetic as well, with plans to change some West Wing's walls and carpets.

The renovation comes as Trump takes a "working vacation" at his property in Bedminster, N.J. When President Barack Obama was told in the spring of 2016 that the renovation could last until the fall of 2016, he and his team chose to leave it to the next administration.

The Roosevelt Room acts as a temporary storage space for toolsand materials.

Workers measure and cut new carpeting in the driveway outside the West Wing. President Ronald Reagan arranged to have the plumbing in all of the bathrooms in the residence replaced while he and his wife were vacationing in California.

Carpet is unloaded off a truck at the West Wing.

"These huge maintenance projects are not atypical", said Betty Monkman, a White House curator from 1967 to 2002.

Among the modifications Ms. Walters said to expect: "There will be no more yellow".
