Texas sales tax holiday is Aug. 11-13

Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar reminds shoppers the annual sales tax holiday is scheduled for this Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 11-13. During this time, you won't have to pay sales tax on most back to school items as long as they're priced $100 or less.

"You'll save approximately $8 for every $100 you spend", said Candace Foster, the marketing director at Broadway Square Mall. This year's sales tax holiday is August 11-13.

What is not exempt from sales tax this weekend?

Nor does it apply to adjustment (including embroidery) or cleaning services performed on clothes and shoes. The tax exemption is offered on both children's and adult items.

She says clothes and backpacks that are gadget-friendly will probably fly off shelves this weekend.

Tax Free weekend is officially underway with a ton of back to school deals.

The holiday extends to layaway plans and items sold online, by phone or by mail order.

Eligible items that customers purchase during the holiday with use of a rain check qualify for the exemption regardless of when the rain check was issued.
