On one hand, the idea of Spider-Man villains showing up without Spider-Man is an idea that just won't go away.

Directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood (Love & Basketball), the standalone superhero film Silver and Black, which centers on the Marvel comic characters Silver Sable and Black Cat, will hit theaters on February 8, 2019.

This week, Sony Pictures announced a release date for another film in its planned Spider-Man spin-off film universe. The spin-off will not be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and will serve as a "buddy film" to Spider-Man.

Now that there's a release date, odds are casting will be announced fairly soon. According to ThatHashtagShow, the Eastern European mercenary Silver Sable will be the actual protagonist, who's hired to track down master thief Black Cat after she stole from "the wrong people". The film is being directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood (The Secret Life of Bees, Love & Basketball), who will also be rewriting the script.

Along with the confirmed release date for Silver and Black, Bad Boys 3 is now unset.

Lastly, the studio also scheduled Breaking Bad and Westworld director Michelle MacLaren's feature film debut, The Nightingale, for January 25, 2019, pushing it back from August 10th, 2018.

In other news, Stefano Sollima's Soldado, the sequel to Denis Villeneuve's haunting crime drama Sicario, has been slated for June 29th, 2018, taking that date from Barbie, which is moving to August 8th, 2018. Benicio del Toro, Josh Brolin, and writer Taylor Sheridan return for the follow-up to the 2015 thriller. Unfortunately, they won't have an official new Spider-Man movie to help them, but maybe Venom will work out for them instead.
