The English Premier League got underway in fine style as Arsenal triumped 4-3 over Leicester courtesy of a dramatic late victor at the Emirates Stadium on Friday night.

Former Manchester United man Danny Welbeck also found the back of the net at the end of the first half, while substitute Aaron Ramsey scored the third goal just minutes before Giroud's victor.

Giroud's compatriot Alexandre Lacazette marked his league debut with a goal in just 94 seconds, only for Shinji Okazaki to level for the Foxes less than three minutes later. Then Jamie Vardy's 29th minute goal put the visitors in front, but Danny Welbeck restored parity for the Gunners in the 45th minute. He doesn't want to leave, but at some stage I opened the door for him because I had many strikers. Also we wanted someone who could represent our values as a club, what we stand for in the world of football and with our fans.

"We started really well and I thought we could stay in control".

Praising Giroud's response after being left out of the starting line-up, Wenger added: "I love the man and the player".

Arsenal turned around the league's first Friday opener in the closing minutes at Emirates Stadium.

"Well if you were a manager and you would be on the bench when you're 3-2 down with 20 minutes to go, and you win 4-3, you're more happy than concerned", he said.

Wenger also stated that lack of focus on the part of his defenders cost Arsenal the first two goals they conceded.

"Leicester had three shots on target and scored three goals, so that shows you how efficient they were, but overall I must say if you look at that from a neutral point of view, for the first game it was a top-quality match".

"We kept the faith and kept believing in our game to push hard".

Asked about Arsenal's title chances, Wenger said: "There are six or seven teams who can win the league".

'When we thought about the key qualities, they were the experience, the gravitas for a club like this, a record of success in the game.
