Leicester City's Craig Shakespeare looks ahead to their Premier League opener against Arsenal.

Roma director of football Monchi has insisted that the club will not be submitting any higher bids for Leicester City's wantaway winger Riyad Mahrez.

Catalan newspaper Sport report Mahrez has been offered to Barcelona, with the insinuation the offering would be from the player's entourage, and the club have politely turned the approach down.

The 26-year-old winger has been one of Roma's top targets this summer, but they have found Leicester to be tough negotiators in their pursuit of the Algeria worldwide.

Asked about the situation with Mahrez, Monchi said in a press conference: "During [Gregoire] Defrel's presentation I said Roma reached the point which we considered was right for Mahrez".

'We won't bid again.

Leicester have not shown any interest in flogging Mahrez to Roma, and the club do not want to hand Monchi yet another transfer scalp as it is, meaning that prising Mahrez from his current employers may prove to be impossible for the Italian club if they're not prepared to offer an adequate figure.

Monchi has said that Roma will not be tempted into testing the Foxes' resolve further, as "the ball is in [Leicester's] court".

"We're waiting for an answer", he added. At the same time, we are working on other solutions. He hasn't given me one problem where I've had to take him to one side and say, "Oi, pull your finger out".

"He's had a professional attitude".

"If he doesn't, though, then he won't train with the group".

Leicester open the Premier League season away to Arsenal on Friday evening.
