Indian woman killed in Pakistani firing at border

Kupwara (Jammu and Kashmir): A woman was killed in the shelling from Pakistan side in Jammu and Kashmir's Mendhar sector at 5:30 a.m. on Saturday. He hailed from Tarsana village in Morena district of Madhya Pradesh.

"One jawan was martyred, and another one was critically injured during ceasefire violations by Pakistani troops", a senior Army official said. This is the second time in a row when Pakistan has violated ceasefire on Saturday. "The Pakistani troops also resorted to mortar shelling", he said. "The Indian Army retaliated strongly and effectively, " he said, adding that "firing ceased at 6.45 am".

Earlier in the day, a civilian was killed after Pakistan resorted to shelling in Mendhar sector in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district. "A woman, who was standing in front of the house, received critical splinter injuries and died on spot", he said. On August 8, Sepoy Pawan Singh Sugra (21) was killed in unprovoked Pakistani firing. Shabir at Gohlad Kalran village, killing his wife Raqia Bi, a police officer said.

This year, Pakistani forces have carried out 301 incidents of unprovoked ceasefire violations along the LoC, the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement.

The death toll of soldiers in July was higher than the casualties suffered by security forces in Pakistani troops firing and shelling along the LoC in the State a year ago.
