Warren surrendered peacefully in San Francisco last week after being on the run for eight days with Wyndham Lathem, a former Northwestern University microbiologist.

The 56-year-old Warren, bearded and using a listening device, said little during a brief hearing at Superior Court in San Francisco other than to say that he had waived his right to fight extradition.

According to the Associated Press, Trenton James Cornell-Duranleau suffered more than 40 stab wounds to his upper body in a fatal attack that occurred last month.

Warren's lawyer, public defender Ariel Boyce-Smith, said outside the courtroom that his agreement to be transferred was not an admission of guilt.

"We have a lot of questions for Mr Lathem and Mr Warren and we look forward to their return to Chicago". Warren gave himself up near the Golden State Bridge, Lathem across the bay in Oakland. Lathem has waived extradition to Chicago.

Warren, a resident of Faringdon, Oxfordshire, has been suspended from his payroll job at Somerville College, part of the Oxford University system.

Chicago Police have released grisly details about the murder of a 26-year-old hair stylist from MI.

Warren, a British national, arrived in the USA days before the killing.

Prof Lathem was a microbiology professor at Northwestern University in IL and specialised in the bacteria that caused the bubonic plague.

Chicago police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi (goo-lee-EHL'-mee) said Friday that the attack on Cornell-Duranleau "certainly was very intense". When police found him, he had already been dead for at least 12 hours.

The weeklong search for Andrew Warren and Northwestern University professor Wyndham Lathem drew global headlines.

Before turning himself in, Lathem made a video in which he apologized for his involvement in the slaying, and he may have made a donation to a library in the victim's name, police said.

Guglielmi said Chicago police are investigating the backgrounds of all the men but won't be releasing details until they have questioned Lathem and Warren.
