Vikas Barala, son of Haryana BJP chief Subhash Barala, and his friend, Ashish Kumar, both facing charges of stalking and attempted abduction of a 29 year-old woman were on Thursday remanded to two-day police custody by a local court. However, based on the public prosecutor's plea, the court granted two-day police custody of the accused on grounds that they were needed to reconstruct the crime scene and establishing motive behind the crime.

Kuldeep, who was one of the first from the Barala household to jump to Vikas' defence, had resorted to victim shaming Varnika.

According to the Newspaper, . This was validated with a CCTV footage which clearly shows Vikas and Ashish buying alcohol from a store in Sector 9. Regarding the incident, there was a huge outrage on the streets and in Parliament.

"Till date, no action has been taken against the respondents because they are very influential people and close relatives of MLA of the Tohana constituency (Subhash Barala)".

Sources say that the police pressed for custody as they will require both the accused to conduct further investigation in relation to the complaint made by the victim.

Director General of Police, Chandigarh, Tajender Singh Luthra said they were arrested on charges of attempt to abduction and IPC 365 and 511 have been filed against them.

The duo, Vikas Barala and Ashish Kumar, were first arrested on the night of August 4 for stalking and harassing Varnika Kundu (Daughter of IAS officer) for almost 45 minutes.

Police has been probing the case for the last five days and whenever they were called, both the youth have joined the investigation, he said.
