Pix11 reports Latesha Bynum was declared brain dead on Jul 15 - the same day she went under the knife to get a butt augmentation. According to the family's attorney, "This was not a qualified doctor".

Now, questions are surfacing over the practice where the procedure was done as the death of 31-year-old Latesha Bynum is under investigation.

After the alleged procedure, Bynum began complaining of dizziness and chest pains, and was taken to Mount Sinai St. Luke's Medical Center. "They should not be doing this". She died two days short of her 32nd birthday.

Police have reportedly been investigating an apartment complex in the East Village. She received the injections to her buttocks not overseas, but right in Manhattan.

"I want to know: Why did they kill my baby?" she asked.

The medical examiner is awaiting test results before declaring a cause of death.

A NY mother died just 12 days after allegedly receiving silicone butt injections at a Manhattan apartment on E. 21 Street. "Why did they do that. Why did they do that. They wasn't supposed to do that".

"They had their licenses", said the Bynum's brother, Tymel.

Dr. Matthew Schulman, a city board-certified plastic surgeon who was not involved in the fatal surgery, said it was likely a synthetic material was injected into Bynum's hips and buttocks. "Medical grade silicone isn't available, so industrial silicone was possibly used".

Latesha Bynum, 31, died on Thursday after spending nearly two weeks in hospital on life support - apparently as a direct result of her injections.

The family's lawyer, Jack Yankowitz, questioned whether the person who performed the procedure was licensed to do so. "She went willingly. She had heard of this location from another friend of hers".
