TMW have today reported Karnezis is an option for Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez, and that the Premier League side have tabled a bid for the 32 year old.

Some 46 signings were made using the Carr/Ashley model before Rafa Benitez arrived, trying to cheat the system by always looking (almost always abroad) for players under a certain age who would/could increase in value.

Still, Benitez knows there is a lot of work left to be done with just under five weeks of the transfer window remaining.

Asked about the decision to send Krul, Lazaar and Riviere to the Academy, Benitez said: "When you have too many players, what you can do is talk with them straight, and that's what I did".

Benitez believes it is "especially important" to sign more players "when you are promoted from the Championship to the Premier League".

"We have been linked with around 100 players but he is not our first target at the moment".

"You can not be Championship or Premier League when you don't have all the squad, all the players, that you want, because we are going a little bit late".

"When you are changing division, it's more hard and you have to bring more players." .

An unknown transfer budget was given to Benitez to help bolster his squad ahead of the new Premier League season, which has been used to bring in Christian Atsu, Florian Lejeune, Jacob Murphy and Javier Manquillo.

The 26-year-old has only played 25 minutes of football in pre-season, while Krul has not featured at all.

The former France Under-21 worldwide spent last season on loan at Osasuna.

Emmanuel Riviere was signed in summer 2014 as Newcastle were desperate for a striker, Loic Remy had scored the goals to keep Newcastle safe the previous season when on loan, but the club desperately needed a quality forward to make sure they'd have a decent 2014/15.
