Lions to hold joint practices with New England Patriots

Bill Belichick announced the news on Wednesday, and the Lions later confirmed it is a walk-through before the August 25 game.

The Detroit Lions will be holding joint practices with the New England Patriots prior to the teams' preseason game on August 25. However, Belichick is certainly a perfectionist and will be making sure that his team is learning during training camp and the preseason.

Offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, noting the soon-to-arrive 40th birthday (Aug. 3) of his starting quarterback, said he doesn't expect backups Jimmy Garoppolo and Jacoby Brissett to be overly deferential to Tom Brady in the meeting rooms or on the practice field once practice begins in earnest Thursday. We all have a lot to prove. We all know their regular season schedule, but when you start to talk playoff seeding and possible playoffs opponents things start to get a little fuzzy.

Gronk is expected to be a key part of the Pats offense once again in 2017 if healthy, but a great deal of depth was added during the offseason in the form of tight end Dwayne Allen, wide receiver Brandin Cooks and running backs Mike Gillislee and Rex Burkhead.

Defensively, the Patriots made a huge move when they signed former Bills cornerback Stephon Gilmore to a five-year, $65 million contract. "They've had sort of backup roles, but they've been very productive when they've been on the field". "But like anything, they have to earn it, and they have to earn it starting now".
