Evacuations ordered for the Sunrise Fire in Western Montana

The fire is threatening 60 homes and other structures Wednesday 11 miles southeast of Superior in the Lolo National Forest.

Wednesday afternoon the Mineral County Sheriff's office ordered the evacuation "in an orderly manner" of Sunrise and Quartz Flats. Residents living near Verde Creek are being warned that they may have to leave, too.

The lightning-sparked blaze started July 16 and has grown to more than 4 square miles, reports Inciweb.

More than 600 firefighters in Montana on Tuesday battled to halt the spread of the biggest wildfire in the United States after it torched buildings, raced through forests and drove scores of people from their homes.

The grant would have let the state recover 75 percent of its costs to suppress the four fires that have burned nearly 400 square miles (1,040 square kilometers) and destroyed at least 16 homes in eastern Montana.

Firefighters in eastern Montana are increasing containment of wildfires that have destroyed 16 homes and scorched about 421 square miles (1,090 kilometers) of farmland and public land. She say's they're mostly working on back burns right now, "and just trying to wrap it up, but from what we can see from here, it looks way better, much better", said Pearson.

"The Lodgepole Complex Fire has destroyed over a dozen homes and hundreds of thousands of acres of land in Montana", Tester said. These funds will provide for the Lodgepole Complex Fires, a grouping of four fires that have burned 270,200 acres since it was first discovered on July 19.

"As firefighters from across the country battles blazes in all corners of Montana, I'm pleased the federal government has reconsidered our request for help", said Governor Bullock.
