"There are few people tougher than my friend John McCain, and I know he will be back with us soon", Republican Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said.

The Senate, which is delaying its consideration of the bill while Sen. John McCain returns to Washington.

McConnell believes the least reliable Republican vote in the Senate is crucial to passage of health care reform? The new package added language letting insurers sell discount-priced policies with minimal coverage aimed at winning over conservatives, and revised funding formulas that would mean federal money for states including Louisiana and Alaska - home to four GOP senators who are uncommitted on the measure.

Brian Whitlock, president and CEO of the Idaho Hospital Association, said, "Like so many others, we view this legislation through a very simple lens: Does is make health care more accessible and affordable?"

The debate should begin Tuesday or Wednesday in the chamber of the Senate by a procedural vote that will be crucial.

With the vote set for the coming week now indefinitely postponed, GOP success in its long-promised Obamacare repeal grows all the more uncertain, despite heavy lobbying in recent days by Trump administration officials.

Senate leadership previously scheduled the Senate healthcare bill - named the Better Care Reconciliation Act (BCRA) - for next week, although the leadership will not hold the vote until McCain recovers from surgery. "Once the pathology information is available, further care will be discussed between doctors and the family".

The Senate bill, like legislation passed earlier by the House, repeals mandates requiring individuals to carry insurance and businesses to offer it, and unravels an expansion of the Medicaid program for the poor and disabled enacted under President Barack Obama's law. McCain is taking time to recover based on the advice of his doctors, the statement said.

"The senator is resting comfortably at home and is in good condition", it said. Records of his medical examinations, issued in 2008, when he was a GOP presidential candidate, showed he had removed precancerous skin lesions and had an initial phase of squamous cell carcinoma.
