Manchester United are ready to test Tottenham's resolve with a final £60m offer for Eric Dier as Jose Mourinho looks to secure his third signing of the summer, according to the Mirror.

Spurs have recently sold right-back Kyle Walker to Manchester City for £50m and have been adamant throughout the summer that no player would be sold against their wishes, despite United's continued interest in Dier.

The Manchester Evening News reported last week that Dier's eagerness to move to United has intensified in recent days, which could play a part in Tottenham's decision regarding his future.

It remains to be seen whether that sort of money would persuade Spurs chairman Daniel Levy to cash-in but it seems Dier is keen for a move to Old Trafford to join his boyhood club. The Portuguese coach wants to have options for holding midfield position, despite offering Michael Carrick an extension till 2018.

Speculation linking Dier with United has circulated for several months now, with executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward said to have skipped the club's pre-season trip to the United States in order to focus on sealing deals for both the 23-year-old and Inter Milan's Ivan Perisic.

United thought that they could lure Dier away from north London with a £40 million bid and an offer to double his wages, but Spurs are reluctant to sell their prized asset.
