West Brom sign Ahmed Hegazi on year-long loan deal

West Bromwich Albion manager Tony Pulis has revealed his delight at securing the signature of Egypt worldwide Ahmed Hegazi on season-long loan.

Egypt global Ahmed Hegazi has joined West Brom on a year-long loan deal.

Albion chairman John Williams confirmed the club had been tracking Hegazi since he impressed at the Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year, and manager Tony Pulis believes the loan deal suits his side best. "He caught our eye at the African championships and we've been tracking him ever since".

'We're pleased he's here, he's a good addition.

Previously of Fiorentina, Hegazi moved back to his native Egypt two years ago where he has rebuilt his reputation as one of the country's strongest defenders.

The Baggies are set to pay a loan fee of £875,000 and included in the deal is an option to buy the 26-year-old for £3.5m before June 30, 2018.

The towering defender played a crucial role helping Egypt secure a runner-up finish in last edition's Nations Cup in Gabon, thanks in part to his superb defensive skills throughout the tournament. It's really, really good for us'.

Hegazi, who has 39 global caps, has been with Al Ahly in his home country for the past two seasons after an unsuccessful stint at Italian top flight club Fiorentina.

He spent half a year in Serie B with Perugia before joining Al Ahly on a five year deal in 2015.
