The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for rain in Lancashire and many other parts of the country.

The heavy showers are expected to push north across the South West on Tuesday evening.

Forecasters say that as well as thunder and lightning, some 20-30mm of rain could fall within an hour with the chance of hail also.

There is now a yellow warning of rain for Herefordshire, Warwickshire & Worcestershire and Northamptonshire from 5pm till midnight on Tuesday.

A spokesman for the Met Office said: "There is relatively low confidence in the areas more at risk of intense downpours".

Frequent lightning may be an additional hazard with potential disruption to power networks.

Mr Claydon said that on Wednesday "the storms will cover a much wider area, taking up all of Wales but stopping before Scotland", from the early hours through to 8pm.

Citizens can look out for more rainy weather due to one of two weather systems heading toward the Caribbean region later this week.
