Asked about the constant Manchester United rumours, Bale told Spanish sports daily Marca: "The truth is I don't read too much into it".

Salgado, a two-time Champions League victor with Madrid, further said that Ronaldo is the guy Real look to when they are playing the big games and that's why, in his view, the star striker will stay at the club.

CRISTIANO RONALDO is happy at Real Madrid and does not want to leave, according to Fernando Morientes.

The 28-year-old struggled with an ankle injury last season and only found a spot on the bench in Real Madrid's Champions League final win over Juventus last month.

Bale's involvement last season was curtailed by ankle and calf injuries, with the Wales worldwide missing all of his side's last six Liga games and managing only 13 minutes of the Champions League final win over Juventus. "I think he is comfortable in Real Madrid", he added.

"But I know him, he is a professional, he is going to be ready to be the important guy that he is, in the important games".

The Welshman has netted 67 times in 150 appearances and has enjoyed a huge amount of success in terms of silverware in Madrid, with three Champions League titles to his name. For him it is important to be healthy and I hope we can see the best Gareth this year'. "Obviously during the holidays I haven't done a lot of intensive stuff on the area, in order to recover well", he said. I've worked hard to recover and now be able to take a full part in pre-season. "Logically I am a British player and I am always linked with a return home". I am sure this is going to be a great season. "Now I need to make myself strong to try and avoid these injuries".
