The Florida HIghway Patrol says a semi truck carrying scrap metal had overturned on the overpass above.

A driver was lucky to escape major injury when a piece of scrap metal crashed onto his vehicle from an overturned tractor-trailer in Orange County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

A man in Florida miraculously survived a freakish accident during which his van was completely crushed by scrap metal.

That pipe, several feet long, fell onto the minivan on the ramp below, smashing the windshield, roof, driver's door, and passenger door behind Escobar.

Somehow, the driver of the minivan suffered only minor injuries in the incident.

Escobar's wife, Aricelli, told ABC News her husband feels blessed to be alive.

"He's a father to three small children and he's our miracle", she said in a statement.

The truck overturned when the driver lost control negotiating a curve and hit a guardrail, the station reported.

The truck driver was charged with careless driving, according to the FHP release.
