LeT terrorist suspected of 2008 CRPF attack held at Mumbai airport

Saleem Khan who is being suspected of being an LeT operative has been arrested at the Mumbai airport in a joint operation by the Uttar Pradesh and the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squads (ATS), news agencies reported.

Identified as Salim Mohammad Khan from Hathgaon block of Fatehpur district in Uttar Pradesh, the alleged Lashkar operative used to finance sleeper cells in the country from United Arab Emirates.

The Maharashtra ATS said that as part of its monitoring of suspicious persons arriving from certain specific foreign destinations, they zeroed in on Salim Mohammed Khan on Monday.

Salim Mukim Khan was detained by the Maharashtra Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS) as he arrived by an worldwide flight at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj global Airport, on Monday morning. "Further inquiries have also revealed that he was in touch with Aftab Ali, an ISI agent who was arrested in Lucknow for espionage in May this year, providing him instructions as well as funding".

His interrogation and records available with security agencies showed his alleged role in the suicide attack on a CRPF camp in Rampur, Uttar Pradesh, on January 1, 2008, he said.

Arun said that two people, Kausar and Shareef, arrested in connection with the attack on CRPF camp, had told the UP police that Salim Khan had got training with them at a terror camp in Muzaffarabad in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in 2007. Khan's arrest has been confirmed by Anand Kumar, UP ADG (Law and Order). The investigation has found Saleem had sent money to Aftab thrice.

Khan operated his accounts with the name of Salim Danish, an intelligence source said in Lucknow. Sandeep Sharma alias Adil, a resident of Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh, was also questioned last week by the Uttar Pradesh ATS after the arrest.
