Kashmir: 3 militants killed in encounter in Anantnag

Three unidentified militants were today killed by the security forces in an encounter in Anantnag district of south Kashmir, said defence officials. Spokesperson Colonel Rajesh Kalia told Greater Kashmir that the operation was "still in progress".

The three slain terrorists, all belonging to terrorist group Lashkar-e-taiba (LeT) were identified as Shaukat Louhar, Mudassir and Zibran.One AK-47, one SLR and one pistol was seized by them. In what was termed as a "chance encounter" between the militants and the security officials, the three of the terrorists were slayed and arms were recovered from them.

"In a chance encounter, three terrorists were killed near Anantnag by joint team of security forces, identities are being ascertained", ANI quoted Jammu and Kashmir Police DGP SP Vaid as saying.

A counter-operation is now underway in the area. The encounter broke out at around 8 pm at Wanihama village of Anantnag, following an anti-militancy operation launched by the security forces, said a defence spokesman. Security personnel retaliated and one person was injured in the firing.
