This does ultimately mean that Jeremy Irons will not return in the role that he made famous in the original animated feature, but Jackman is a worthy successor. It seems, however, as if he isn't ready to give up his animal instincts just yet as Jackman has joined Jon Favreau's live-action Lion King remake. The director Jon Favreau was quoted by as saying that he knew how important this was for the people.

Another rumored voice for The Lion King is none other than Beyonce, for the role of Nala. The only thing that doesn't make sense is why Disney didn't announce Jackman officially and why his own representatives are denying it.

It's plausible that Jackman could really be the voice of Scar, and his team is trying to keep it under wraps until there is an official announcement.

Hugh Jackman might be done playing Wolverine, with the X-Man taking his last stand in this year's Logan.

Despite silence on Jackman, there were major castings confirmed at the D23 expo this weekend, and they belong to fellow Disney movie Aladdin. He's making Lion King (scheduled for a July 19, 2019 release) on a bluescreen stage in Los Angeles, again using virtual production techniques by reteaming with Jungle Book's Oscar winning VFX supervisor Rob Legato and lead VFX house MPC and VFX house Weta. The 1992 flick is also getting it's own live-action remake and Will Smith has been cast as the Genie.
