Police in New Hampshire continue investigating the death of a 12-year-old-girl who was hit and killed by a powerboat driven by her father on Newfound Lake Monday morning.

According to the marine patrol, the girl has been water skiing behind her father's boat when she fell into the water. The patrol says her father, Sherwood Anderson, drove the towing boat back toward her but became briefly distracted as his hat was blown off his head.

Authorities say drugs and alcohol did not play a role in the incident and no charges are expected. She suffered serious injuries to her torso.

The accident was reported at 8:30 a.m.

The Dartmouth-Hitchcock Air Rescue Transport helicopter landed on the athletic field at the Bridgewater school on School House Road, about two miles from where the victim was brought to shore.

The state Medical Examiner's Office will conduct an autopsy.
