Explosion kills 10 worshippers in Maiduguri mosque

A female suicide bomber targeting a mosque killed at least eight people and injured 18 others in northeast Nigeria, police said Monday.

The government emergency management said only eight bodies have been evacuated so far by its rescue personnel, adding 15 others were injured in the attacks.

A reliable security source, who pleaded anonymity, told NAN that the first and second explosions occurred at about 9.45 p.m at Mulaikalmari, some six kilometers away from Maiduguri.

A female suicide bomber female was said to have detonated an explosive device killing several worshippers who came for prayers at the mosque.

Earlier, another suicide explosion took place in Molai, a volatile area on the outskirts of the city, a vigilante member and witness Mohammed Khalli said.

Suspected Boko Terrorists have again attacked the Nigerian northeastern city of Maiduguri.

The source added that security teams had been drafted to the affected areas to ascertain the situation.

According to him, the deceased and his brother were returning home after grazing their cattle in a nearby forest.

"The wounded boy was referred to the Specialist Hospital, Maiduguri for medical attention".

Boko Haram, which is suspected to be responsible for Monday's attacks, had been blamed for the deaths of more than 20,000 people and displacment of 2.3 million others in Nigeria since their insurgency started in 2009.
