British royals arrive in Poland at start of a European Union visit

As per usual, it was Prince George and Princess Charlotte who were the centre of attention as they disembarked from the aircraft, accompanied by Kate and William. This is the first official visit of the entire family gathered in these countries.

The youngsters' faces were pressed up against one of the plane's circular windows as they arrived alongside the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge for a five-day tour.

The third and fourth in line to the British throne joined their parents - the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge - on the five-day tour of Europe undertaken by the royals on the request of the United Kingdom s Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO).

"The Duke and Duchess [of Cambridge] are very much looking forward to this tour and are delighted with the exciting and varied programme that has been put together for it", the Royal family's official website said.

William and Kate will start their visit with a stroll along Warsaw's iconic Krakowskie Przedmieście street after meeting President Andrzej Duda and the First Lady.

Holding on to his father's hand, George, who turns four on Saturday, looked smart in navy button-down shorts teamed with a checked blue and red shirt, while his little sister, two, dazzled crowds in a red and white patterned dress.

They will also be visiting the Warsaw Rising Museum, dedicated to the 1944 Polish uprising during World War Two.

They will also tour the site of Gdansk's shipyards, the birthplace of Poland's Solidarity movement, which helped topple Communist rule.

The mood will change when the Duke and Duchess renew their sporting rivalry on a visit the picturesque Germany city of Heidelberg, which is twinned with Cambridge.

Prince William and Kate will meet again with the Polish first couple before heading to Germany on Wednesday morning.

Perhaps the penultimate event of the royal tour will be when William and Kate take their competitive streak to the water as they captain crew boats in Heidelberg.
