Bellinger hits for cycle against Marlins

Are Dodgers the best team in baseball? Starting pitcher Alex Wood won and improved to 11-0, 10-0 as a starter. "Our club for 27 outs competes harder than anyone". The Dodgers and Astros are each on pace to win 100-plus games, something that hasn't happened for two teams in a single season since the St. Louis Cardinals and New York Yankees did so in 2004.

The bandwagon included an entire section at Marlins Park, where a group that follows the team on the road unfurled its enormous blue flag with the Dodgers logo during the sixth inning. Puig shouted at Urena and took several steps as some players and both managers ran onto the field.

The four hits are a career high for Bellinger, who finished 4-for-5 with three runs-batted-in and two runs scored.

"Yasiel overreacted", Roberts?said. "It's clear to me there was no intent [by Urena]".

The updated Major League Baseball standings have the Los Angeles Dodgers at 64-29 on the season, 10-and-a-half games ahead of the Arizona Diamondbacks for first place in the division.

With that, he became the first rookie in Dodger history to hit for the cycle (and they've had some good rookies, you know).

An angry Yasiel Puig took several steps toward the mound after he was almost hit by a pitch from Jose Urena in the second inning of Saturday night's game against the Miami Marlins. It's really all 25 guys in here that are coming to compete every single day and bringing their best out on the field.

"You look at the numbers and the production he has had, and the easy thing is to put him right in the middle of the order", Roberts said before the game. "But I think pitching will still win out in the end". With the ninth spot in the batting order due up, Marlins manager Don Mattingly removed O'Grady and inserted Ichiro Suzuki.

The Dodgers are 31-6 (.838) when Puig bats eighth. The Elias Sports Bureau notes that he is the fourth pitcher in the last 20 seasons to win each of his first 10 decisions as a starting pitcher (the others are Max Scherzer, Clay Buchholz and Stephen Strasburg).

Washington needs another arm or two for its bullpen, and Boston could look for a power-hitting third baseman before the deadline. Edinson Volquez will start game three and is 4-8 with a 4.19 ERA and 81 strikeouts this season.
