Thousands of police gather for funeral of slain NY trooper

THERESA, N.Y. (AP) — Funeral arrangements are set for an upstate NY woman allegedly slain by her soldier husband, who's also accused of fatally shooting a state trooper.

Meanwhile, if you would like to help the children of trooper Davis, you can now make donations. Nichole Walters was found dead on her home's driveway.

FORT DRUM, N.Y. (AP) — Hundreds of NY state troopers held their hats to their hearts as they passed the flag-draped casket of a trooper killed in the line of duty.

Davis was wearing a bulletproof vest.

The 36-year-old was fatally shot Sunday night while responding to reports of gunfire on a couple's property in the town of Theresa.

"When I come in at 6:30 in the morning and see them standing, it really hits home,"Prelas said".

Mr. Davis's death is a bad loss.

He said Davis's brother is an officer in Watertown. His service to the people of Northern New York is greatly appreciated, and his presence among us will be sadly missed. "His death is yet another sad reminder of the risks law enforcement officers face each day in order to protect our communities and serve the residents of this great state". Walters, 32, was charged with killing his 27-year-old wife, Nichole V. Walters, and Mr. Davis.

He enrolled in March 2007, Army records show.
