Driver fled fiery River North crash that killed passenger, police say

The man believed to be the driver who fled the scene after Monday morning's horrific, fiery crash near the Kennedy Expressway onramp, in River North, was found dead later that evening. Aly Damian's distraught family said they do not know the driver of the auto.

A 34-year-old man who reportedly was the driver in a vehicle crash that killed his passenger early Monday and shut down the Ontario feeder ramp for seven hours was found dead in his Bucktown apartment Monday night. The Cook County medical examiner's office did not immediately provide information on the fatality.

Milder's neighbors said police cars were at his home for several hours Monday night. Surveillance video showed the auto hitting a utility pole before exploding. The two men can be heard on video asking the alleged driver if there was anyone else in the auto.

Two witnesses, who asked that their names not be used out concerns for their safety, provided cellphone video to NBC 5 of the moments after the fatal crash. They told NBC 5 in an interview they asked him at least six times. A female passenger, identified as Alejandra Damian, 21, was pronounced dead on the scene.

The police Major Accidents Investigation Unit is investigating the crash.

A GoFundMe page set up to help with funeral and memorial expenses had raised almost $10,000 towards a $15,000 goal in just 15 hours as of Tuesday morning.
