SC medical student dies in Peru hiking accident

The school said Sunday night that Seth Thomas, a second-year medical student, was killed in what appears to be a hiking accident.

Seth Thomas, a 24-year-old University of SC medical student, has been found dead after he disappeared while on a hike in Peru.

The body of a University of SC student was found. USC had said earlier that Thomas went for a hike alone on Friday and hadn't been seen since.

He was on a short-term medical mission in Peru where he was working with a non-profit to improve women's health.

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - A University of SC medical student has gone missing during a trip to Peru planned through Augusta University. He was scheduled to return to the United States next week.

The University of SC is offering counseling to those affected by Thomas' death. "We continue to gather information and work actively for his safe return".
