Saudi, most Gulf Arabs celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr

Thousands of Muslim Albertans celebrated Eid al-Fitr Sunday, marking the end of Ramadan.

Jamil Khan says, "In the Devon Avenue area it is not just the Muslim shops and eateries that offer Iftar delicacies but nearly every business enterprise runs an Eid special".

While congratulating Muslims on the successful completion of the Ramadan fast, the speaker called on them to imbibe and demonstrate the lessons of kindness, tolerance and submission to the higher authority identified with the holy month and put Nigeria first in all their endeavours. In his message, the Chief Minister said the festival, which marks the culmination of the holy month of Ramzan, underlines the plurality of the Indian cultural ethos.

Celebrations traditionally begin with Chand Raat, the evening before the day of Eid, when people go for Eid shopping.

On the other hand, the Sultanate of Oman said Monday will be the first day of the Eid.

Saudi Arabia, Middle East and Gulf countries are celebrating Eid today.

Instead, on Saturday night he released a brief statement saying, "Best wishes to all Muslims celebrating Id al-Fitr".

Reports from London said new moon could not be sighted anywhere in United Kingdom on Saturday.

Local officials at the capitol building said this year Eid'l celebration is the saddest in recent memory. "I urge everybody to continue praying so that the turmoil in our city of Marawi will end", the mayor said on ANC television.
