International Day of Yoga 2017

The first global yoga day was celebrated at Rajpath, New Delhi in 2015 and 35,895 yogis came together in Delhi to make a new Guinness book world record although this time 62,000 people were gathered at different events in Delhi.

Thousands of people gathered for the event at the Ramabai Ambedkar Maidan despite continuous rain in the city.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the International Yoga Day celebrations in Lucknow.

In the Uttar Pradesh capital, where Modi was joined by Governor Ram Naik and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the prime minister thanked people for coming out in large numbers despite the rains, saying, "Your presence here will give strength to yoga and deserves salutation".

Addressing yoga participants, Chief Minister Pema Khandu said, "Yoga is not only good for our physical and mental health, but its helps to maintain energy, strength, and relieve stress".

ITBP also tweeted a number of photos of jawans in the middle of the Yoga session on the bank of the Indus river at 11.6K ft in Ladakh.

In India, social media was flooded with pictures of yoga being performed in various places including an Indian Navy submarine and the deck of an aircraft carrier.

Yoga practitioners have taken a relaxing break to bend, twist and pose for the annual global event celebrating the practice, especially in the country where it began.

With various ways of programs conducted by the state and central governments, the yoga program conducted in the presence of honorable central ministers plays a vital role in all aspects. "There are many countries which do not know our language, traditions or culture, but the entire world is getting connected with us because of yoga".

The first two functions of the International Yoga Day were held in New Delhi and Chandigarh. The Indian streets enjoyed a specter as people of all age groups wearing lovely clothing had an all inclusive yoga session.

She appreciated the practice of Yoga and Prime Minister Modi's efforts to bring the practice on the global map.

In addition to fitness, wellness is important.
