For a period last season, Caballero dislodged Bravo in between the sticks and finished the season in goal following the Chilean's calf injury suffered in the Manchester derby in April.

Conte has been frustrated so far this summer and Caballero could be his first signing since winning the title.

Chelsea fans, would you be pleased with having Caballero as back-up to Courtois for the forthcoming season?

The Daily Star and Daily Express are both reporting that the Blues are set to announce the arrival of the Argentine goalkeeper as their first summer signing in the coming days.

With Chelsea looking for a back-up goalkeeper after selling Asmir Begovic to Bournemouth, the 35-year-old shot-stopper could be a very sensible addition.

The Blues are also thought to be working on finally landing Romelu Lukaku from Everton in another big-money move.

However Monaco ace Tiemoue Bakayoko could become a Chelsea player over the next week.

It has been reported that Newcastle manager Benitez wants a wise and experienced head behind his defence - Caballero would certainly fit the bill.

Caballero was Pep Guardiola's first choice for a brief period last season, with Claudio Bravo being benched after a few high-profile mistakes.

Caballero has been allowed to leave City after the signing of Ederson, with the Argentine veteran now available on a free transfer.
