Boston Red Sox starting pitcher David Price, right, reacts as Houston Astros' Carlos Correa, left, rounds the bases after hitting a solo home run during the fifth inning of a baseball game, Sunday, June 18, 2017, in Hou.

The Astros managed three baserunners in the second inning and two more in the third but failed to score each time.

Starter David Price danced in and out of trouble most of the night, at one point looking down at his pitching hand as if his recurring blister was bothering him again.

"I think he did a good job of hanging out on the outer part of the strike zone", Astros manager A.J. Hinch said of Pomeranz. After a two-out single and walk, Jackie Bradley Jr. added a two-run double. That closed the book on Pomeranz, who allowed one run on four hits and three walks with four strikeouts over 6 1/3 innings.

While Boston (39-30) pulled into a tie atop the American League East with the New York Yankees, Houston dropped all three series on its nine-game homestand.

Craig Kimbrel earned his 20th save for the Red Sox.

BRAVES 8, MARLINS 7 (10) Brandon Phillips drove in the winning run with in the bottom of the 10th inning, Matt Adams had four RBI and Atlanta rallied from a four-run deficit to beat visiting Miami. "It was a one-hopper bullet hit right at Betts". After the game, the Red Sox second baseman was checked out a local hospital.

Dustin Pedroia followed Betts in the lineup and was also hit by Hoyt, drawing a warning from home plate umpire Greg Gibson. The quick throw, however, caught Betts on his right elbow as he dove back into the bag.

"They took advantage of nearly all of their opportunities and we struggled in a couple of those", manager A.J. Hinch said.

Altuve led off the third with his home run off the train tracks above the left-center field facade, and Beltran followed three batters later with his ninth home run of the season to put Houston ahead 6-0. He was replaced by Heath Hembree, who ended a streak of 26 straight scoreless innings by Boston's bullpen when he allowed the homer to Springer to get Houston within 5-4. Keuchel has been on the 10-day disabled list since June 5 with neck discomfort; McCullers since June 9 with lower back discomfort.

Baseball and Central Mass. go way back - to the 1860s. OF Josh Reddick (concussion) resumed baseball activities Friday, Hinch said.

Red Sox: Hector Velazquez (1-1, 6.48 ERA) is scheduled to start for Boston in the first of three games at Kansas City on Monday. Last year's AL Cy Young Award victor lost his fourth consecutive - his second four-game losing streak this season - and has allowed five or more runs in three consecutive outings. Brad Peacock (3-1 3.00) will start in the series opener against the Athletics.

"He cuts down a run to finish the sixth, then the first pitch thrown in eighth, he gives us the lead", Boston manager John Farrell said.
