A teenager was allegedly kidnapped and taken on a terrifying ride across NSW after a request for marriage was turned down.

A MAN accused of abducting and raping an 18-year-old girl during a terrifying 19-hour road trip meant to marry her, Wagga Local Court has heard.

Chafic Charylala allegedly drove to the woman's Bankstown home early on Monday morning before taking her to the Novotel at Brighton Le Sands, and then to a Lakemba house, where an Islamic ceremony took place.

Police say the woman was driven to a number of locations around Sydney and allegedly sexually assaulted before being driven south towards Melbourne in what became a 19-hour ordeal.

Her alleged kidnapper was a 31-year-old man she knew.

He was taken to Wagga Police Station where he was charged with sexual assault, indecent assault, and kidnapping.

It is claimed Charylala had asked the teenager's family for permission to marry her prior to the incident, but they refused.

The family contacted police who then found the vehicle and arrested the 31-year-old man on the Hume Highway around 351km away in Gundagai at 9 pm.

The man was refused bail and is yet to appear at Wagga Wagga Local Court on Tuesday.

The victim was taken to Wagga hospital in a stable condition and is assisting police with inquiries.
