Police at London Bridge after auto reportedly plows into people

Peter Rhodes, assistant director of operations for London Ambulance Service, said his staff had taken more than 30 patients to five London hospitals.

The violence turned a summery Saturday night in an area packed with bars and restaurants into a scene of panic and chaos, with officers running through crowded streets screaming for people to flee and lifeboats drafted to help clear the area.

Horrified witnesses have told how they tried to use bar stools and glasses to fend off attackers as they stabbed bystanders in London's latest terrorist incidents.

In one of the incidents, a van speeding across the London Bridge suddenly veered off the road and hit several pedestrians on the pavement.

The second incident took place at Borough market of multiple people being stabbed by the unidentified men.

"Armed officers responded very quickly and bravely, confronting three male suspects who were shot and killed in Borough Market", said Rowley.

The attack had harrowing echoes of an attack on London's Westminster Bridge when 52-year-old British Muslim convert Khalid Masood rammed his auto into pedestrians before crashing into the barriers surrounding parliament and then stabbing a police officer to death.

A man called Gerard told the BBC: "They were stabbing everyone".

Calum Curry told CNN that he and friends were walking near the bridge Saturday night when he heard a loud noise. POlice arrived and gunfire rang out, he said. The legal fight pits the president's authority over immigration against what lower courts have said is a policy that purported to be about national security but was meant to target Muslims.

Grande is in the United Kingdom preparing for the gig scheduled to take place at Manchester on Sunday.

There were a number of different reports in the immediate aftermath of the attack, with witnesses reporting bodies lying on the ground and victims having had their throats cut.

The incident was reported at 10:08 pm local time, NBC News reported, adding that within eight minutes, all of the suspects had been fatally shot by officers, citing authorities.

Trump also used the incident to promote his proposed travel ban, which has been blocked by federal courts. At least one taxi company offered free rides to people stranded in the area. Britain has weathered two terrorism attacks in recent months.

British Prime Minister Theresa May says the incidents involving a vehicle and reported stabbings in London "is being treated as a potential act of terrorism".

The bombing killed 22 people who were at the arena for an Ariana Grande concert.

The British Prime Minister's office said May was being regularly updated on the situation, and the White House said President Trump has been briefed.

Ms Bishop says she has been in contact with UK High Commissioner Alexander Downer shortly after reports of the emergency. The assailant and four other people were killed, and 40 others were injured.

Prime Minister Theresa May said: "Our thoughts are with those who are caught up in these terrible events".
