It was based on Blomkamp's 2005 short film, "Alive in Joburg".

Well known for alien invasion movie District 9 and an unrealized encounter with the Aliens franchise, Neill Blomkamp is preparing sci-fi fans for the first salvo from experimental film production outfit Oats Studio.

The video showcases the tense action scenes and sci-fi creatures that have come to define his career, opening with a shot of the Eiffel Tower in a world where aliens have colonised the earth and are wiping out mankind. This kind of business model can ensure that the movies being made are the ones that fans want to see: Take note Hollywood! "Adapt or die. Simple as that", the narrator ends. Promoted as a "series of experiemental short films", Oats Studios Volume 1 is hopefully just the first of many planned shorts from Blomkamp's studio.

We don't know exactly when this film will come out, besides "soon", or what its length will be, besides "short".

No official release has been announced yet, but on Neill Blomkamp's Twitter he discusses possibility of releasing "Volume 1" of the Oats Studios shorts on YouTube for free, with premium extras available for a fee. Other footage in the trailer appears to come from separate short films, one of which depicts US army forces fighting in the jungle.

Blomkamp first revealed the project a year ago after asking fans if they would be interested in purchasing short films off the (majorly) gaming platform Steam.

The Oats teaser says that the studio's shorts will be "streaming" somewhere in the near future.
