Search operations in Pathankot after abandoned bag found

A local resident informed the police about the bag on Sunday following which the search operation was conducted.

According to police officials, Punjab Police and Army launched a search operation after the abandoned bag containing army combat dresses was detected by a passerby who then reported the matter to the security officials.

Army, SWAT commandos are carrying out a search operation.

A search operation by the Indian Army and the SWAT team of the Pathankot Police is now underway. "The uniforms have "Jammu" written on it", The Times of India quoted an official as saying.

Earlier in May, security alert was sounded in Pathankot after two suspicious bags were found lying unattended just a few yards away from the military base.

The police recovered mobile tower batteries from the bags.

An Air Force station in Pathankot was attacked in January previous year by heavily armed terrorists who sneaked into India from Pakistan.

In January 2016, Pathankot Air Force Base was under terrorist attack in which seven security personnel were martyred.
