The uncle of boxer Andre Dirrell took matters into his own hands Saturday night.

At the end of round eight, Uzcategui threw a clearly late punch after the bell which felled Dirrell and left him unable to continue the fight.

After the fight, Dirrell's uncle and cornerman, Leon Lawson, punched an unsuspecting Uzcategui in the jaw.

About the ending, Dirrell said, "All I remember was him [Uzcategui] throwing a shot at me at the same time the bell rang".

This marks Dirrell's 26th victory, having only lost twice, both to British boxers Carl Froch and James DeGale.

"He cares for me", concluded Dirrell, "He loves me. But please forgive him".

ESPN reported that Lawson Jr was wanted on two assault charges by local police.

Eric Woodyard of MLive noted Dirrell's brothers, Anthony and Willie, were restrained ringside at the MGM National Harbor in Oxon Hill, Maryland.

The result gave Dirrell the interim IBF super middleweight title, but what followed would overshadow everything.

In the main event of the evening, Gary Russell Jr. boxed Oscar Escandon.

"I don't understand why he did that because, like I said, I feel fine". We boys are gladiators, and sometimes emotions get the best of us.

Dirrell was awarded the fight after Uzcategui sent his opponent to the canvas with a flurry of blows after the bell. "I don't want to win a championship like this". The gladiators are warriors.
