Dick Durbin and Dianne Feinstein are calling on Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein to resign if no special prosecutor is named to replace ousted FBI Director James Comey in the investigation into Russia's meddling in the 2016 USA election.

In an interview to Fox News, President Donald said, "Everybody's convinced: They say there is no collusion".

A pair of top House Democrats is calling on the White House to hand over any possible "tapes" of conversations between President Trump and former FBI Director James Comey and all communications relating to his dismissal. The president and White House officials have also professed frustration with an investigation into possible collusion between Russian Federation and Trump's presidential campaign, which Comey as FBI director was leading.

"To young Americans at both schools, I will be bringing a message of hope and optimism about our nation's bright future", Trump said in his weekly address to the nation.

US President Donald Trump has warned fired Federal Bureau of Investigation chief James Comey against leaking material to the media.

Trump, who has been preparing for his first foreign trip to the Middle East and Europe late next week, also will deliver the commencement address to the United States Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut, on Wednesday.

The tweet came a day after The New York Times reported that Trump had demanded that Comey pledge his loyalty to him at a private dinner at the White House on January 27.

In a letter terminating his employment, Trump wrote that Comey had reassured him on three separate occasions, including once over dinner, that he was not under investigation.

"I also support Senator Durbin's call for Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein to resign if he is unwilling to appoint a special counsel", she said.

CNN cited an unnamed source as saying Mr Comey was "not anxious about any tapes" Mr Trump may have of their conversations. "If there's tapes of this conversation, they need to be turned over".

The FBI's Russian Federation probe is also looking into possible links between the Trump campaign and Russian Federation.

"I can confidently tell you that the vast majority of employees enjoyed a deep and positive connection to Director Comey", Mr McCabe said.
