Marquette Sends Four to NCAA West Prelims

- Nine women from the University of MI women's track and field team are officially continuing their 2017 outdoor seasons into national postseason competition as they were among the qualifiers announced Thursday (May 18) for next week's NCAA East Preliminary Rounds in Lexington, Kentucky. The qualifiers out of these two regions will compete in the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships held June 7-10 in Eugene, Oregon.

The NCAA Selection Committee accepted the top 48 performers in each individual event and the top 24 relay teams in both relays to compete at each site hosting the NCAA Preliminary Rounds for a total of 96 athletes in each individual event and 48 relay teams competing in each event nationwide. Spires is the Falcons' highest ranked qualifier, holding a No. 2 ranking in the region's high jump standings, while Hulslander (javelin throw), Pater (pole vault) and Trimble (200-meter dash, 110-meter hurdles) are all ranked ninth in their respective events. The NCAA West Preliminary is hosted by the University of Texas, and is held from Thursday, May 25 through Saturday, May 27 at Mike A. Myers Stadium. The Falcons, who qualified athletes in 23 different events, will travel to Austin, Texas, next week (May 25-27) for the opening round of the national meet.

Hutchinson's personal best of 4:18.50 in the 1500 meters also came at the Florida Relays, and she was the runner-up at the BIG EAST Championships to Cleirigh Buttner last weekend. First round - Friday, May 26, at 4:30 p.m.

On the women's side, Tulane will see action from Jessica Duckett in both the 100m hurdles and 400m hurdles, while Alyssa Applebee, Mary Carson Pitts and Rebekah Markel will compete in the pole vault. Rotich was also a gold-medal finisher in the 3,000m steeplechase at conference. She qualified for the hammer on May 5 at the NDSU Tune-Up when she broke her own school record with a throw of 202-06 (61.72).

Potts and Joubert will round out the Green Wave's regional field, Potts being the current school record holder in the shot put on a mark of 15.81m.
