The Browns have added veteran cornerback Jason McCourty to help shore up their secondary.

Additionally, McCourty intercepted 13 passes, which he returned for 99 yards, defended 73 others and forced seven fumbles. He had an impressive bounce-back campaign in 2016 after groin problems limited the corner to only four games the previous season. Left cornerback Joe Haden has battled injuries each of the last two seasons. "That meant a lot for me", McCourty said Wednesday during an interview with Cleveland Browns Daily. "For me, that made it an easy decision".

Just a few days ago, McCourty had said that about 7-8 teams were interested in him, and he's said that at 29 years old, he's hoping to go somewhere he can play for a Super Bowl. I know what his defenses consist of. In talking with Sashi (Brown) and coach Hue Jackson, it was obvious. He reunites with Browns defensive coordinator Gregg Williams, who was a senior assistant defensive coach with the Titans in 2013.

McCourty said he will begin his Browns career at cornerback, where he's played his entire National Football League career, while also learning other positions in the defensive backfield as a way to maximize his impact.

After being named a starting cornerback in 2011, McCourty led Tennessee during the past six seasons with 11 interceptions.

Heading into the upcoming season, it appears as though McCourty will be an immediate starter on the opposite side of Haden.

The Browns also announced they have signed seventh-round draft choice Zane Gonzalez. Gonzalez was the 224th overall pick. Gonzalez kicked 94 field goals and 494 extra points in his college career.
