Despite small steps for Matt Harvey, Mets drop seventh straight

The Arizona Diamondbacks took advantage of a limping New Mets squad, sweeping the Metropolitans and now have a 24-18 record, just two games behind the first-place Colorado Rockies.

The Arizona Diamondbacks look to keep their home-field success going on Tuesday when they host the New York Mets in the second game of a three-game series.

Jake Lamb hit a third-inning home run off Matt Harvey to give the Diamondbacks their first lead, the 11th home run off Harvey already this season.

On Monday, that streak reached 15 games, though Wheeler at least gave the Mets a chance. Michael Conforto and Juan Lagares hit home runs for the Mets, but it simply wasn't enough and the Mets failed to win a single game on this road trip. They went 0-for-3 in the first, second and fourth innings; three times (Brandon Drury, Fuentes and Owings respectively) stranding a runner on second base. Three batters later, Reyes doubled home the go-ahead run, atoning for an earlier baserunning gaffe that had cut short a Mets rally. "We come out of tomorrow's game and we're excited about what we see out of Matt Harvey, we'll take it".

Want more disappointing news, Mets rooters? "I will not let that happen here. It may be, but it may not either, so we have got to get these guys that are here going". "It's a lot to embrace for me right now", Lovullo said.

For Montero, he falls to 0-3 on the season with a 9.69 ERA.

"It's awesome, man", Herrmann said. Godley walked five - one intentionally - and struck out seven, giving up only a run in a no-decision. "It's something you dream about when you're a little kid, when I'm 6 years old playing out in the cul de sac hitting tennis balls".

DODGERS 6, GIANTS 1: Johnny Cueto thought Yasmani Grandal was stealing signs at second base from San Francisco catcher Buster Posey after a first-inning double.

Herrmman's teammates doused him with a Gatoraid container of ice and water at the plate. "That's what I love about him", Collins said.

And they had not finished winless on a road trip of at last six games since September 1999.

Diamondbacks starter Patrick Corbin allowed four runs and nine hits in six innings, and five pitchers combined for two-hit relief. He walked two batters in the fourth before escaping the jam with the Mets leading 4-3, and navigated around a one-out walk in the fifth inning. "Wasn't one of those things where (he said) 'hey, I'm a starting pitcher.' I like that". "But overall I felt much better today".

Despite all the doom and gloom surrounding this team, there are several positives that have developed in the first two months of the season.

Tomas has gone deep in five consecutive meetings with the Mets, who matched a season high with their sixth straight defeat.

Matt Harvey struck out Diamondbacks' slugger Paul Goldschmidt on three pitches in the fifth. He was the Diamondbacks' bullpen and catching coach from 1998 to 2016 before joining the Mets this season. NY led 4-3 before Yasmany Tomas' RBI double in the seventh off Robert Gsellman, whose turn is being skipped in the rotation because of an off day. Manager Torey Lovullo said this stretch "will define a little bit of who we are".

Steven Matz and Seth Lugo are each scheduled to pitch two innings Thursday for Single-A St. Lucie in rehab appearances. Arizona OF David Peralta (glute tightness) did not start on Monday but came off the bench to pinch-hit after being removed from Sunday's game as a precaution. Harvey is 3-1 with a 3.20 ERA and 38 strikeouts in his career against the Diamondbacks. RHP Ricky Nolasco (2-2, 4.34) opens for Los Angeless.

Tommy Milone (1-1) lasted 5 2/3 innings in his second start for the Mets.
