"We are talking about a president who fired the Federal Bureau of Investigation director [James Comey] who was investigating the president for his connections to Russian involvement in the president's election", he added.

"Over the course of your life, you will find things are not always fair, you will find things happen to you that you do not deserve and not always warranted but you have to put your head down and fight fight fight", CBS News quoted Trump as saying on Wednesday at the academy in New London.

"I was in the Nixon administration, as you know, and I thought after watching the Clinton impeachment I'd never see another one", said Gergen who served under Presidents Richard Nixon and Bill Clinton, both of whom had faced the impeachment process during their tenure.

"No politician in history, and I say this with great surety, has been treated worse or more unfairly", Trump said. "You can't let the critics and the naysayers get in the way of your dreams", he continued.

"I guess that's why we won", he said. "And the more righteous your fight, the more opposition you will face".

Yesterday the New York Times disclosed that Comey had written memos describing a request from Trump not to pursue the FBI's investigation of former national security adviser Michael Flynn's contacts with Russian Federation.

Earlier, Vladimir Putin said he was willing to hand over a transcript of a discussion between Mr Trump and senior Russian officials.

Trump says he's proud of his administration's accomplishments, including the confirmation of Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch and proposed regulation rollbacks, and all but taunted his critics in his declaration that he has no plans to give up anytime soon.

The White House has said it was "wholly appropriate" for President Trump to share the information.

But his own political troubles were not far from his mind.

Ryan said Congress needs to get the facts, but "it is obvious there are some people out there who want to harm the president". Trump said during his speech. During the campaign he threatened to rewrite the libel laws After his election he didn't understand why there needed to be a White House pool to keep track of his many comings and goings - all those annoying reporters and photographers to be kept at bay.

Republicans and Democrats alike were eager to hear from Comey, who has increasingly emerged as a central figure in the unfolding drama.

Trump did not mention Comey during the almost half-hour address, but seemed to allude to the multiple controversies swirling around him.

It's nearly as if people don't want him to be president. But despite Trump's boast, the Pentagon already had negotiated a lower price for the next lot of F-35s last summer, before he was elected president.

No politician - notice he's not even narrowing the field merely to presidents of the United States - has ever, ever been treated worse - not ever in the course of human history - believe it!

And in case the cadets wondered if this was really advice for them - or simply a coded defense of himself - the president then made his intentions clear.

The notion that President Donald Trump will actually be impeached seemed like liberal wishful thinking, but a new prosecutor represented a serious threat and Washington was abuzz Wednesday with the surround sound of scandal.
